Over 400 newspapers,
large and small, have discovered that event auctions offer a compelling
and reliable way to secure new advertisers and generate incremental
sales from existing advertisers.
CityXpress is the leading supplier of revenue-generating event
auctions to the newspaper industry. Over the past five years,
our company has staged more than 700 auctions, generating over
$170 million in new revenue for our newspaper customers. Success
breeds success: many of our customers are planning their third,
fourth or fifth auctions.
How does it work? The model is
simple - local advertisers provide goods or services in trade for newspaper advertising.
If a product sells in the auction - that is, meets a reserve price set
in advance by your newspaper - the advertiser earns an ad credit equal to the
product's retail value. Your newspaper keeps the cash received from the bidder
as payment for the ad credit. Typically lasting 10 days, event auctions
are conducted online and supported by a print advertising campaign. Readers bid
on auction items online or by telephone. The highest bidder whose bid meets or
exceeds the reserve price wins the item or service. Everybody
wins! Newspapers win...
 | They
receive a major boost in ad revenues and immediate cash from auction sales. |
 | They
generally secure many new advertisers (40 to 60 per cent is typical) and reactivate
dormant accounts. | Advertisers win...
 | They
earn credit for ad space - their cost is the wholesale price of their product. |
 | They
receive free promotion in print and online, even if their item does not sell.
| | They
enjoy increased walk-in traffic - our surveys show about one-third of bidders
visit vendors to view products before bidding, and about half of these plan to
make a purchase.. | Bidders win...
 | They
can bid on and purchase popular brand-name products at discount prices. |
